Kapil Dev, Gavaskar and Amarnath reunite in Singapore for the '83 Legends Tour
Mariners' Cricket Club Singapore will host the '83 Legends Tour from 7–9 August 2026, reuniting Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Mohinder Amarnath in what the club calls the first reunion of India's 1983 World Cup-winning squad in South-East Asia.
For the generation of Indians who watched it — at home and across the diaspora — the afternoon of 25 June 1983, when Kapil Dev lifted the Prudential Cup on the Lord's balcony, has never quite faded. This August, some of the men who stood on that balcony are bringing the memory to Singapore.
The Mariners' Cricket Club (MCC) Singapore will host The '83 Legends Tour of Singapore from 7 to 9 August 2026 — a three-day event the club describes as the first time the heroes of India's 1983 World Cup-winning squad have reunited for a tour in South-East Asia since that triumph. The line-up, MCC says, includes captain Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Mohinder Amarnath.
The choice of city fits. Singapore is one of the diaspora's great hubs and, as the organisers frame it, a global maritime capital — and the club itself, established in 2005, exists to bring together executives from the maritime sector through a shared passion for cricket, under the motto "Bringing the Maritime Industry Together Through Sport, Camaraderie & Community."
The tour opens with a Grand Gala Dinner on Friday 7 August, which the club says will welcome over 600 guests and feature an interactive live talk session — hosted by a celebrity sports anchor — in which the players reflect on the campaign that changed Indian cricket. Alongside it, on 7 and 8 August, MCC will run 90-minute corporate leadership sessions: workshops it says are designed to translate lessons from elite sport into business strategy — goal-setting, handling setbacks, and team motivation.
The centrepiece is Saturday 8 August's Legends vs Mariners Match, folded into the club's annual Mariners Premier League (MPL) — a tournament MCC says fields 61 teams across corporate, open, women's and junior divisions. In a detail that captures Singapore's maritime character, the club says the match will be live-streamed to more than 2,000 commercial ships at sea.

Furthermore, broadcasting our showcase match live to thousands of mariners working out at sea reinforces Singapore's unmatched global connectivity, celebrates the deep camaraderie that defines our maritime industry, and allows us to serve as a tireless torch-bearer to promote cricket in South-East Asia."
For a diaspora that has carried the story of 1983 across four decades and as many continents, the tour offers a rare thing: not a highlight reel, but the players themselves — in a city many of its own members now call home.
